A mental health movement to get people, worldwide, outside and into the natural benefits it provides.
Anytime - Anywhere - Just Get Outside!
The o2 Project is a registered Canadian non-profit dedicated to improving mental health through connection with nature. Our mission is to make nature-based wellness accessible to individuals and communities across Canada.
Through initiatives like Get Outside Day, we inspire people of all ages to experience the proven mental and physical health benefits of spending time outdoors. Time in nature has been shown to reduce stress and cortisol levels, ease symptoms of anxiety and depression, lower blood pressure, improve mood, and support immune function.
Our mission is to help people reconnect with nature, themselves, and their communities. Even small amounts of time outside offer a simple, low-to-no-cost way to significantly improve overall health, well-being, and outlook.
Each year on the second Saturday of June, the o2 Project celebrates Get Outside Day, encouraging individuals, communities, and organizations to spend time outdoors. This initiative supports both personal well-being and mental health awareness.
Whether it’s a walk, run, hike, bike ride, or simply sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine, we encourage people of all ages to participate. It is a low-to-no-cost initiative—making it simple, accessible, and inclusive for everyone.
Mark the date on your calendar and invite your family and friends to join you!
In addition to Get Outside Day, we also have our 10-A-Day joint initiative with the Military Veterans Advocacy which encourages people to spend at least 10 minutes a day, each day, outside. The goal of this initiative is to encourage those who may be isolating themselves inside, to get back outside and into the healing effects of nature. With each day they accomplish this, they will feel the sun on their faces, the fresh air in their lungs, and realize that they can and do feel better. It may even encourage them to do it more often and to seek more in-depth treatment options like a Wilderness Therapy program.
In addition to helping people benefit from nature, the Benjamin Ware Legacy Fund raises money for Nature-based and Wilderness Therapy initiatives. In the fall of 2027, The o2 Project hopes to host it's first annual Introduction to Nature Therapy Retreat! We are currently inviting organizations to participate as sponsors and partners and would be delighted to hear from you if you’re interested in getting involved.
We are a registered Canadian non-profit and together we can inspire people everywhere to step outside—for their health, their community, and their well-being.
